What is surgical Mesh?
Surgical mesh is a medical device that was designed to provide support to damaged or enfeebled tissue. These devices have been constructed from animal tissue as well as synthetic materials.
What causes a hernia?
The right amount of pressure coupled with an opening or weakness in muscle or connective tissue can lead to a hernia. The pressure pushes an organ or tissue through the open or weakened spot.
Types of Hernias
Inguinal: Occurs in inner groin
Femoral: Occurs in upper thigh/outer groin
Incisional: Occurs through incision or scar in abdomen
Ventral: Occurs in general abdominal/ventral wall
Umbilical: Occurs at the belly button
Hiatal: Occurs inside the abdomen, along the upper stomach/diaphragm
