Paint Exposure Lawsuits
Missouri & Illinois Paint Exposure Attorneys
Everyone has probably been exposed to paint at some point or other. Many paints are harmless. Others are not. If you have suffered adverse health effects after paint exposure, the attorneys at Keane Law LLC can help you assess, for free, whether you have a case.
Until 1978, many paints used in household settings contained lead, a natural but toxic substance that causes birth defects and learning disabilities in children. Construction workers are obliged to take special care to avoid disturbing existing lead paint when they renovate buildings containing old lead paint. If they fail to do so, residents and their children may be exposed.
Some paints, especially in industrial settings, contain hexamethylene diisocyanate, an extremely harmful chemical that causes acute short term symptoms resembling a heart attack, and requiring immediate emergency care. Even a single large dose of hexamethylene diisocyanate can result in a potentially lifelong condition known as reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS). This asthma-like disease manifests as increased sensitivity to small amounts of irritants in the atmosphere. It can be debilitating and painful.
Some paints may include volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a general term that may include specific carcinogenic chemicals like benzene, which causes acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and other blood disorders. Other paints may contain silicates, which cause silicosis, a severe and debilitating lung disease.
If you have been exposed to paint, either in large quantities at a single time (acute exposure), or to low doses over the course of a long period of time (chronic exposure), and suffered negative health consequences such as RADS, cancer, or silicosis, you may have a claim for damages. However, there are many different types of paint, and some may not be harmful to your health. Contact us today, for free, to assess whether you may have a claim.
